5 Shirt Quilts And Projects From Repurposed Pre-Loved Mens Shirts

Re-Purpose Shirts And Make These Delightful Shirt Quilts.

Before tossing out pre loved mens shirts put them aside and collect enough to repurpose the fabric and make a shirt quilt. It’s neat to be able to use up fabric from a shirt that is being thrown out for whatever reason. If the shirt is pre-loved it makes the quilt even more special and if the quilt contains one or two favorites. Shirts from a loved one that hold memories of a special time or day make this an extra special project. Whether flannel or cotton, shirts make the most thrifty and even some of the smartest quilts around.

It makes sense that if using shirts to make a quilt, that they would be a perfect quilt for a man, always a difficult task. Using pre loved shirts almost insures that he’s going to love it. Worn shirts that are dear to you can be used to make memory quilts and projects. If using from a collection of random shirts the quilt can be made quite masculine and even a young guy would love it. Use shirts found in thrift stores.

This throw made by Threading My Way turned out amazing. A simple 5 strip block quilt can cost you next to nothing. Check your stash for the backing fabric for this one, and you may even have enough batting for the project. You’ll need 30 blocks 7″ x 7″ and with sashing will give you a finished quilt of 41″ x 48″.

Only seven mens shirts are needed to make this nice sized throw. The tutorial by Nancy-Rose at Life Is A Stitch covers sorting the shirt colors into 2 lights and 5 darks. A very easy beginning. They should be 100% cotton and a similar weight. For best results for this design the shirts shouldn’t be to worn. It would help if the fabric is reasonably firm, and feel a bit like good quilting fabric.
