Sweet Little Pieced Blocks Make Up This Delightful Woodsy Drawstring Bag.

This adorable drawstring bag can be used for a myriad of things. Hang at the front door as holiday decor to welcome
visitors. Or use indoors for holiday goodies, or to collect Christmas cards. Use it as a gift bag. Fill with cookies wrapped in clear or colored cellophane. The base is nice and firm and will stand pretty on a mantle or next to the tree. Perfect to start using up last years holiday and winter scraps. Add a special touch with the holly applique!

Start off with nine 4 3/4 ” squares of cream assorted prints, cut diagonally twice in an X giving you 36 triangles in total. Repeat for brown assorted prints. To assemble the blocks sew two assorted cream print triangles and two assorted brown print triangles in pairs. Then simply join the squares to make an hour glass block. The block should be four inches square. Repeat to make 18 hour glass blocks in total.

Lay the blocks in three rows and sew the blocks to form a rectangle.

Position the holly and berries (or your choice of appliques) on the bag body and fuse pieces into place.

1/3 yard total assorted brown prints (bag body)
Scrap of green print (leaf appliqués)
7/8 yard red print (berry appliqués, handle, tie, bottom, binding)
3/8 yard purple print (lining)
