Use Up All Fabric Scraps With Kona White With This Clever Scrap Jar Star Quilt.

Try this clever mix of Kona white and colorful scraps, plus a 16 patch made into a star block to make this pretty scrappy star quilt. It’s bright and fun, so soft and inviting, and to think it’s was made from a collection of scraps, is totally unique and there’s been no waste whatsoever. That’s the beauty of scrappy quilts making them extra special. Scrap quilts have a charm like no oter quilts. And especially using favorite bits that you just could not part with, now turned into something not only useful, but beautiful too. Something long lasting and special because it is truly one of a kind!

When using this pattern there are no rules. The brightest prettiest fabric bits can be cut to shape and put together to make a 16 patch block and the results are great, especially with a little attention to color way. Then half square triangle blocks for each star point.  To get the idea, you will be making a 16 patch block. Then place half square blocks either side of the 16 patch to make the eight point star. The block should measure 12 1/2″ unfinished.

The blocks can be used for almost any project. Make four blocks for a delightful table topper. Add sashing and some brightly colored squares in the middle.

Jodi made up six blocks with extra white and a border make a delightful baby quilt.

Jodi Nelson from Pleasant Home used Flea Market Fancy and kona White for the featured quilt, using the scrap jar star block pattern, used a soft blue print for the backing, and used left over fabric from her Flea Market Fancy fabric for the binding. It’s gorgous!

With a 16 patch block to begin with, plus the HST eight point star, renders a generous 12 1/2″  block. The design is done pretty much and with sashing and some extra squares, the top should come together quickly. And to think this beautiful quilt is totally scrappy.
