Weighted Pincushion With Thread Catcher Turns Your Work Space Around

A New Sewing Accessory To Make In One Afternoon.

One simple addition to the sewing room can make all the difference. A pin cushion organizer together with a thread catcher right at hand keeps threads, and bits of fabric scraps cleaned up during work in progress, and helps keeps your work space neat. The organizer includes a convenient hanging pocket to keep accessories within easy reach.

The pin cushion is weighted with rice and can be perched on the arm rest of the sofa, as well as on the edge of the sewing table. The oblong pin cushion fits easily between the sewing machine and table edge. Add a little wool felt strip in the middle of the pin cushion to keep sewing needles in one place. Attach a handy sewing organizer to hold seam rippers, small scissors and tape measure.

The basket is so pretty and doubles as decor in your sewing room putting pretty fabrics on display. Tip out the button box and look through your collection to find a fun button to fasten the basket to the pin cushion. The scrap bag basket can be used on it’s own. Make some extra baskets to match and throw in scraps as you go.

Designed by Elizabeth Hartman of Sew Mama Sew, the pincushion organizer is available as a free pattern and it’s fun to make. Use scraps and any fabric that you love to look at every day.

(Note: Use fusible facing for the basket not mentioned in the pattern. My basket was too floppy without it. Also, I used 1 cup of rice and not one and a quarter cup as mentioned in the pattern. Alternatively, fill the bag half way, insert, continue to fill, and hand stitch closed.)
