The inspiration came a traditional tartan quilt and the geometry of plaids. Right angles sized up into two squares only, has created this vibrant geometric layout. While it may look complicated it is so easy to put together. A super time saver for anyone short on time.

The pattern is so simple consisting mainly of two squares cut in half to create four triangles becoming a super sized plaid. Begin by sewing up four strips of fabric to create the square. Cut the squares in half and turn the triangles in so all four corners meet. Add a strip for the sashing and that’s it! The top is done!

This modernised tartan turned retro is bright and colorful using gender neutral colors for the nursery, and can be displayed for any time of year. The large strips support the splash of color for this super sized plaid, allowing an unlimited possiblity to showcase your favorites. Choose muted corals, blue and green if espcially wanting some attention on a baby girl nursery decor.

There are some additional tips from Suzy at Suzy Quilts about how to prevent ‘warping’ with a biased edge. She also mentions not to trim the final sashing until the entire quilt is sewn together. Squaring up the edges of the sashing before the two halves of the quilt are sewn together, will cause a risking of trimming too much and one whole side of the quilt will be smaller than the other.
