Cathedral Window Quilt – The Secret’s In The Middle.
Cathedral Window Quilt – Imagine Making This Beauty.
Cathedral window quilt is one of my favorite. Jazz it up with bold bright colors like this one. The Cathedral block looks so complicated to make especially when you look at the dimension of the circles with the fold over at the sides. It’s hard to imagine until you actually see the window being made. The secret is in the middle square as you’ll see further down.
Once you master the cathedral window quilt, use the same technique for stacks of easy quilt projects. First comes to mind are quilted ornaments, pincushions. It’s the fabric that personalizes the final design.
Check out the colors being used for this cathedral window quilt. You’ll need one pack of 42 x 5″ charm squares. These are the Essex linen squares by Robert Kaufman.
To add a pack of solid white color squares to use for the framing square.
Start by putting 4 squares together.
Then fold the 4 white squares in half diagonally and place one diagonal on top of each colored square.
Fold the two top squares over, right sides together for stitching. Press. Repeat for the other 2 squares. Stitch squares together to form the block.
Press all seams open to help reduce bulk. Place a square in the center of the block and pin.
You can see the idea coming together already. Turn the white edges over and stitch in place. Beautiful!
I hope that gives a good idea to help you get started on your cathedral window quilt.
Jenny from the Missouri Star Quilt Company has shared a video on an easy cathedral window quilt. This video shows you how to make the cathedral block from the start, and then to finally put it all together to complete the cathedral window quilt. I think it’s done really well.
