Make A Log Cabin Quilt With Sweet Scottie Dogs

Create Different Designs With Your Log Cabin Quilts.

Log Cabin quilt blocks feature strips of fabric pieced around a center square. Use the technique in a variety of ways to get different looks in a quilt built from the same block! Why not make a sweet patchwork Scottie dog for the center.

Start with a basic log cabin block, half dark fabrics and half light, in this case reds and blues of different values were chosen. To create the different layout designs, simply flip and rotate the blocks to change the placement of the color values.

Use tartan plaids for a patchwork effect, or strip piece left over fabric, then cut out the Scottie dog applique. Find scraps that compliment the colors of the log cabin blocks for the dogs, then use white or a light solid background to show off the playful pup.

It’s a great beginner quilt pattern. The block is constructed using strips sub-cut into rectangles and squares and there’s no bias edges to contend with. When making a Scottie dog log cabin quilt you could use any mix of fabrics, although plaids are quite traditional and also look great in greens and blues. If you love dogs with your quilt patterns, enjoy creating this sweet Log Cabin.

The Scottie dog log cabin quilt pattern can be found in the ‘Log Cabins For Everyone’ pattern book. Included are patterns from miniature wall quilts to larger projects for the home and gift-giving. The book is choc full with one of the nicest collections of fun to stitch variations of the log cabin, well balanced with some a little more challenging for the experienced quilter.
