Pineapple Mini Quilt Pattern
Anything with bright yellow pineapples always brings sunshine into the place. This little pineapple mini quilt was reduced in size and a worked out to be the perfect place mat. Imagine this bright patchwork pineapple, and to make the colors pop, a black and white binding was added, combined with yellow polka dots!
I can’t imagine anyone not wanting to make a patchwork pineapple. It’s so cute, it makes you smile. And it looks like it’s smiling back! …Ok, moving on…
You can make a bunch of these patchwork pineapples and use them for lots of things. Perfect o make up a set of four or six pineapple place mats.
If you have some bright yellow and lime green scraps around, then it’s all you need to get started on this mini quilt.
Fabric you’ll be neediing:
-assorted yellow scraps
-assorted green scraps, some light and dark to make the leaves look dimensional.
-1/8 yard of solid white
-1/8 yard of black & white stripe for binding, and some bright white and yellow polka dots if you have.
-11” x 14” scrap for backing
That’s it!
From the assorted yellow scraps, cut: sixteen 1-1/2” squares, two 1-7/8” squares and one 2-1/4” wide strip (optional for binding)
From assorted green scraps, cut: four 1-7/8” squares.
From the white fabric, cut: two 1-1/2” squares, four 1-7/8” squares,.
From the white fabric also cut two 2-1/2” x 7-1/2” rectangles for the side border of the pineapple,
and two 2-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangles for the top and bottom border.
From the binding cut: one 2-1/4” x Wof.
Start by making the half-square triangles:
With fabrics right sides together , stitch 1-7/8” white square and yellow square together. Draw a diagonal line down the center. Then stitch 1/4 inch on either side of the center diagonal line.
Cut the square in half along the drawn line. Press seam open of each square.
Repeat making 4 total yellow and white half square triangles, 4 green and white half-square triangles and 2 green half-square triangles, using two different shades of bright green.
Arrange the squares to form the pineapple shape and leaves on top. It works out at 7 rows of 4 squares using the colors of the block to make up the pineapple. Stitch. Press the seams open.
Sew the 2-1/2” x 7-1/2” rectangles to each side of the pineapple. Press towards the white border. Sew the 2-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangles to the top and bottom. Press towards the border.
Lastly, layer the pineapple top, batting and backing fabric. Quilt straight vertical lines approximately 1/2” apart. Bind with your contrasting binding.
Use it for lunch!
