When You Need A Quilt And A Little Fizz For Your Fat Quarters
Use Up Your Stash Of Fat Quarters And Make This Stunning Fat Quarter Fizz.
So the festivities are over and you’re deciding on your next quilting project. While traditional quilts are truly satisfying to the core, you might be looking for something a little dynamic and somewhat more edgy right now. Try this Fat Quarter Fizz. You’re sure to have some fat quarters in your basket.
A simple design turned stunning by using ten light prints and ten dark prints. This is a quilt that merges dark and light colors yet the contrast is not strong at all. It’s very soft on the eye. Use colors for winter or summer. A mix of floral prints in deep corals and white will drape beautifully over a white sofa.
You’ll be cutting each fat quarter into two rectangles and stitching them together, then cutting again to make strips. The strips are a mix of both light and dark. The fat quarters can be made up of any prints, solids, florals, even stripes and dots. Whatever colors you choose, use at least one extreme in the light colors to create the fizz. With both of these quilts on display, the extreme light is white.
Picking fabric for a quilt can be tricky. When choosing colors and prints to add, fold fabric down to the intended strip size of the block. Then put them next to each other as they look different in smaller pieces. If choosing magenta, choose the deepest magenta there is. Then merge the light colors and drop in the white. Have fun mixing them up a little until you get the fizz! It’s fun.
Fat quarter bundles take the guess work out. It’s easy once you have the basic collection all working together. Then to get the ‘fizz’ add an extreme.
