If you don’t have scraps, you can use fat eights. This brick quilt is a great start for beginners, and a breeze for any quilter. Choosing 10 different fabrics for the colored blocks, an accent to make the prints pop, and stitch up a new throw over the weekend.

 

You can use scraps, layer cakes (10” squares), fat quarters, or fat eighths. White serves as an accent and luminates the colors. Sew together in horizontal rows placing white to stagger the brick design.

Choose fabrics to suit the season or decor, using assorted colors and prints, with repeats here and there. White is always fresh and crisp, however, experiment with a different accent to make fabric pop. Light grey as an accent is perfect for this color combination.

Have fun with fabric, finding surprise combinations that are just perfect to tie this quilt together, with 4″ x 8″ brick blocks. A great pattern to get started with, designed by Rachel McDaniel Hayes, the finished size is 40″ x 52″, and makes a colorful throw, crib size, baby or toddler sized quilt.
