To get the perfect acorn shape with strip piecing, there’s no need for foundation paper piecing. Quilt as you go and sew up a couple in a weekend.

Eileen Johnson has come up with an easy idea to cut a fabric acorn from a paper template which allows you to stitch even tiny scraps right onto the acorn.

Rickrack adds a pop of color, and an acorn leaf finishes with a button and loop to display these charming acorns in your kitchen.

Be sure to layer with heat proof batting such as Insulbrite if using to set hot things on.

Eileen has put together a fun pattern to make a finished hot pad of approximately 7″ x 10 1/2″. Watch a quick video pattern tutorial here of how to make her delicious scrappy acorn hotpad.
