Stitch In The Ditch Puffy Baby Quilt With Just Three Blocks

An Extra Cuddly Baby Quilt With Thick Loft Batting And Stitch In The Ditch.

When deciding on a baby quilt the first idea that comes to mind is cute motif and pretty baby colors. The puffy quilts always look much more cuddly. Using a thick loft batting makes for a puffier feel and worked beautifully for this baby quilt, together with Michael Miller’s Zoology prints and Backyard Baby resulted in the prettiest cuddliest quilt made up from just three simple blocks.

Use a block to add different motifs fussy cut from the Zoology fabric. Adding fabric motifs into the block results in a softer quilt as opposed to appliqued motifs that somtimes result in the quilt being a little stiff. For the center of the block you will need to cut a square 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″. Vary the motifs a little to add more interest.

Make a second block using a mix of  four different prints, mixing matching the strips to make the blocks into all sorts of combinations. Make up railfence blocks (four strips /block) arranging in random order until you get a balance for each block.

The third block consists of four squares cut at 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″. Then just have great fun arranging them until you love it.

Use something like this extra loft batting and stitch in the ditch to make the quilt nice and puffy. This was the backing Rita used for the quilt with a bible verse for a very special baby.
