Flea Market Fancy is a fabric line from way back in 2012. Make this quilt easily using similar fabric colors. Make up your own selection by mixing and matching prints on hand. The featured quilt has a mix of Kaffe Fasset colors along with some of the bright Flea Market Fancy prints, amongst some other prints. Be inspired by the fabric you have in your stash. Dig into your scraps to find bright colored florals and polka dots, even some stripes and checks will help transform ‘blah’ into beautiful.
The center square is 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″, then strips start at 1″ x 2″, 1 x 2 1/2″, 1 x 3″, 1 x 3 1/2″ , 1 x 4″ and 1 x 4 1/2′. You sure to have enough scraps to cover those sorts of sizes, plus some left over jelly roll strips with colors you thought you would never use.
Find a few pieces of purple amongst your scraps. Purple is an emerging color in quilting projects and one or two pieces is sufficient to create a spot of intensity. You might surprise yourself by the result of the purple inclusion.
This luscious quilt is made from a traditional log cabin block where half of the log cabin block is made using light prints, and the other half using dark prints. Rita from Red Pepper Quilts has used a traditional layout called Barn Raising. Follow the layout of light to light for the blocks, or play around with the lay out until you love it.
If you enjoy small patchwork piecing, and you love mixing it up a little this is a fun block to play with. Each finished Log Cabin Block measures 4.5 inches x 4.5 inches including seam allowances. There’s a total of 144 log cabin blocks in this quilt. The finished quilt size of 48 1/2″ x 48 1/2″.
The reds and the bright colors of the holiday season are over and you’re feeling like there’s a lack of color, a couple of these fun log cabin blocks might be just what the doctor ordered.
