16 Patch Blocks For Bushels Of Color

Make This Spring Quilt In Any Color.

Just like the changes in Spring that seemingly happen overnight, when you notice small florets of green, and tiny buds where there was dry bark just yesterday, this pretty 16 patch quilt in green and brown captures the early changes of the season.

There are sixteen patch blocks and careful placement of triangles that form the hourglass block. The hourglass block creates a frame around each sixteen patch block. Choose greens and browns together with creams and tan for the alternate colorway in the soft green version, the instructions are to make the sixteen patch blocks using assorted strips of fabric. However any variation can be chosen by piecing 2 1/2″ squares, perfect to use up a basket full of colorful scraps!

Make up your own variation using bright cheerful prints in 2 1/2″ squares. Follow the pattern instructions for the alternate colorway, or choose colors for any season. Bushels of Color is a simple two-block lap quilt pattern and a great beginner quilt. There are no boundaries for color choice, the pretty blocks can be made up in any color combination.

I love the artwork that happens with strip piecing, and the green and brown dappled with lighter cream is a beautiful combination of colors. Use up large pieces of left over fabric, or cut your choice of colors from yardage. Thirty two 16 patch blocks sew up quick, together with 31 hourglass blocks, this simple two-block, large throw quilt is quick to piece.
