Sew A Ribbon Box Quilt With Just 12 Scraps

Ribbons Need Just One Third Of a Yard

Just the right project for larger pieces of scraps. Start selecting left over fabrics no less than one third of a yard each. Simple to piece, a ribbon box quilt with interwoven strips comes together in a matter of hours. With the time to spend, make a delightful baby quilt in a day.

Consistent patterning across the ribbons, occurs by having each fabric strip cut horizontally across the fabric. Showcase 12 strips left over from a special fabric collection, or put together a similar palette as the sample quilt. Mix and match small, medium and a feature large print. 2 Fat quarters are enough for the binding.

To focus on pattern consistency The Team over at Cloud 9 suggests cutting fabric so the design runs horizontally across the width (selvedge to selvedge) as opposed to cutting along the length of the fabric.

In the absence of a design wall, simply lay out the pieces on the floor or large table. It is mainly straight lines and with some sewing skills, its beginner friendly. Labelling keeps it organized when sewing, and in no time the pattern emerges.

The pattern designed by Michelle Engel Bencsko provides a finished size of 55″ x 63″, just larger than a cot or crib quilt. The size could be adjusted by removing 2 ribbon rows. A quick fun finish to a delightful ribbon box baby quilt!
