A Sweet Chicken Quilt For Your Next Jelly Roll Project

Make Your Hen House With Strippy Chicks

A sweet chicken quilt has all the makings for a homely atmosphere, with each hen made cute in their colorful jelly strips. Spotty prints for the sashing make a cozy coop, with sweet miniature nine patches at each corner for a little extra ‘decor’.

This pretty hen quilt is warm and welcoming in the kitchen, a colorful table topper, or drape over a bench. 3 chickens in a row make a fun table runner. The quirky quilt offers a balance of quilting and applique. Each hen has a story to tell, and there are even one or two with eggs!

Select 4 strips for each chicken body. Arrange the strips until you like the way they blend together. Each chicken can be a different color made up from an interesting assortment of prints. For the wings, waddle and combs, a contrasting color. Red is nice, with the exception of one or two wings in brown.

Needle turn applique chickens and eggs are affixed to a square of fabric, to construct nine 8″ quilt blocks. The inner border in red and white polka dots accent the wings and bring the cute chickens to life!

The ‘Rule The Roost’ quilt, designed by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs, is a finished size of 40 1/2″ x 40 1/2″. Anne Suttons chicken pattern can be found in the new ‘Moda All Stars: On A Roll Book’. The book contains 14 quilt projects that start with 2 1/2″ strips. A nice addition to any quilters library, if you love jelly rolls, and especially if you have a stash of 2 1/2″ strips!
