Dashing Stars Quilt Using Your Favorite Layer Cake
Use Layer Cakes, or Charm Packs For A Smaller Quilt.
The big stars on this quilt are so quick and easy, especially using a layer cake. Half square triangle quilts are fun to put together, even for beginners. They’re especially great for the easy construction of this stunning Dashing Stars Quilt.
To get started making the star blocks, you’ll need 2 ten inch squares that are dark, two light, and two the same color for the background fabric. Your background fabric remains the same throughout, and for the design, any fabrics in light and dark. Two layer cake or 10 inch squares will make four half square triangles for the pinwheel.
The secret to using a layer cake (or very accurately cut 10 Inch square) is once the half square triangles are sewn and pressed, because they came from the same block, they go back into the same block perfectly! The pinwheel block is the center of the star. Adding the next round of 6 half square triangles completes the star, a huge block that finishes at 25 inches.
These 25″ block are big and bold. Sewing three blocks across and four down makes up a bed quilt in no time. The block is snowballed at all four corners and when put together forms another fun design. The versatile pattern can be used for any season.
There is a smaller version of the Dashing Stars quilt pattern. The quilt blocks are smaller and the quilt is quick to put together using charm packs.
