To make each block the fat quarter will cut into four 9″x 9″ squares. Stitch up the blocks together with 4 /3″ squares in background fabric to create the block. They go super quick chain piecing, then separate the chain pieced quilt blocks using this Sunflower Quilts Thread Cutter. Who could imagine a simple thread cutter could save so much time.

The design becomes apparent when the quilt top is constructed. To ensure all of the blocks are pointing in the right direction, the top is divided into quarters Arrange the blocks as instructed and a resonance of color bursts from this quilt. It’s very pretty.

The designer Caroline from Sew Can She provides a tutorial for The Fat Quarter Fancy throw quilt which is approximately 52” square. Finished blocks are 8 1/2″. The quilt made up of 36 blocks will make a smaller size throw or a a generous size baby quilt. You could easily adapt the pattern to make it larger or smaller using more or fewer blocks.

You would have enough left over fabric from the fat quarters, plus one more fat quarter to make a scrappy binding. Although binding is easy to using left over fabric and strips in the scrap basket.
