Holiday Jelly Roll To Frame A Christmas Star

Light Color Fabrics Make The Stars Bright

Use light color fabric to create a floating star against red and green Christmas prints. Piece a nine patch variation of “Holiday Stars” and assemble rows of Christmas favorites for the sashing.

The “Holiday Stars” quilt pattern by American Jane is out of print, however the quilt top would come together quickly by piecing star blocks and adding rows of 2 1/2 inch squares to frame the star.

To sew a star block, lay out HSTs, flying geese, and background squares to form the stars. Melanie Call of Fortworth Fabric Studio provides a charming free pattern to sew her ‘Star Break’ Quilt, available here, which includes how to sew a finished 9.5 inch star block.

For the sashing, crack open a Christmas jelly roll, or dig out left over strips, to sew together and cut into 2 1/2 inch squares.  ‘Frame’ the star blocks to provide a myriad of delightful holiday prints.

Increases quilt size by adding more blocks and rows of sashing.
