You can’t go wrong following the designer Lynn Lister’s advice, for the fabric colors for Nana’s Nine Patch. Winter rich colors are just right, yet Lynn suggests getting out the fabric stash for this one. Then simply use her tips and guides. The nine patch is just adorable.


The cream black fabric for the inner border is a distinctive weave known as ticking stripe. The ticking and the red/black check are the secret to this scrappy quilts old fashioned country home charm. A fantastic mix of blues and greens with red and gold…  a clasic mix. Play with fabrics for a myriad of combinations.


There are 42 nine patch blocks in total. The finished size is 56 3/4″ x 63 5/8″. The design is very easy to enlarge aswell, by simply adding more blocks.

Assorted prints for the prints and sashing posts      2 1/4 to 2 1/2 yards total
Black texture sashing           1 1/8 yards
Cream/black stripe for the first border     1/2 yard
Gold print for the second border                 1/4 yard
Red/black check for the third border          3/8 yard
Black/tan print for the fourth border binding    1 7/8 yard
Backing piece widthwise                           3  3/4 yards
Batting    – Twin size
Yardage is based on fabric with  40˝ of usable width, with stripes running parallel to selvage.
