Twirling Fans Quilt That Is Mesmerizing With Scraps
Twirling Fans So Much Easier Than You Think.
It’s amazing our these twirling fans look almost impossible to achieve, yet following the pattern and accompanying tutorials, an intermediate skilled quilter could easily get the same beautiful results. Start with the center square, and the fans twirl around the square. Tutorials show how to create the inner border with half square triangles. Then the final pieced border made up of a mix of scrappy squares, ties the whole project together perfectly.
The border consists of blocks in various combinations that equal 8 1/2″ squares. Totally random and such fun.The border is so pretty, I would even skip the half square triangle inner border. The twirling fans are showcased in white blocks.
You’ll be placing the center square right sides together with the first fan unit. Once the fan blocks are made, and the square set in the middle of the four fan blocks, they come together beautifully.
The border could be used for other quilt projects just the same. Just as the fans could be used for table toppers, or even mug rugs and placemats.
Here’s a look in at the 8 1/2″ squares put together to make a scrappy border.
These fan blocks are bright and fun, any fabric colors and prints could be used. The pattern is for a queen size including borders, and also crib size. However, with a little experience, you could customize the size by the number of fan blocks. It is nice to follow a pattern though, where all sizes and measurements are worked out for you.
Whichever way, this quilt is very unusual and will catch everyone eye.
