A Striking Winter Quilt Block Becomes A Spring Flower

A Quilt Block For Any Season

A beautiful design that forms sparkling stars using just four fabrics. The block is a nine-patch made up of 4” units, which are based on two traditional blocks:
Diamond in the Square and Mill and Stars.

This pretty block, originally designed for a winter themed quilt, creates dancing stars using light and medium fabrics for the background, and medium and dark fabrics for the stars and corners. Choose your own fabrics, however it is suggested using contrasting fabrics for the secondary pattern to emerge.

While the stars are prominent, a small change in the layout creates a dramatic effect. For Spring and Summer projects, using different fabrics and color placements, a beautiful flower comes to life!

The blocks can be machine pieced using templates, however paper piecing using freezer paper is easy to use and provides a crisp block. Construct the quilt top without sashing, to form a mesmerizing design that is sure to become a feature wall quilt, or eye catching table topper.

The designer, Meerkat Shweshwe, had a vision for a Farmers Wife quilt block, which has become a totally fun design that can be used for almost any project! The 12″ finished block is available as a free pattern.
