There are endless creative quilting projects with fabric panels and Jungle Babies have a great range of giraffes, lions, monkeys… It’s Geri giraffe we’re after. That cute face will live on forever. I wonder what’s in those cheeks. I love the way Bonnie Sneed has captured the expression in her adorable Giraffe baby quilt.
There are several ways to replicate Geri. One way is to use Simplicity’s nursery set pattern, or follow Bonnies idea of setting out a basic quilt pattern using Electric Quilt 5, and draw the giraffe free hand. Bonnie drew up a larger version of Geri Giraffe on tissue paper and used that as her pattern template. She applied light weight two sided iron on adhesive webbing to the fabrics and cut out the pieces using the giraffe template. The pieces were then ironed on to the background fabric. Have a quick read here of all the details.
There’s another way to make up your template for the giraffe. By-pass the free hand drawing. Print out the picture of the giraffe. Size up the picture using this method here.
If you’re not familiar with programs such as Electric Quilt5 to design the basic quilt, use the crib size quilt pattern found in Simplicity’s Jungle Babies nursery set. Then, use Bonnie’s Geri Giraffe’s template for the center panel. The giraffe quilt can be made any size, and if experienced, you could work out the length of the borders yourself. Make a crib size giraffe quilt, or make a little smaller for the most adorable wall quilt. Simplicity’s Jungle quilt pattern is available here.
