Start with a basic log cabin block, half dark fabrics and half light, in this case reds and blues of different values were chosen. To create the different layout designs, simply flip and rotate the blocks to change the placement of the color values.
Use tartan plaids for a patchwork effect, or strip piece left over fabric, then cut out the Scottie dog applique. Find scraps that compliment the colors of the log cabin blocks for the dogs, then use white or a light solid background to show off the playful pup.
It’s a great beginner quilt pattern. The block is constructed using strips sub-cut into rectangles and squares and there’s no bias edges to contend with.
