How To Make A Sunshine And Shadows Log Cabin Quilt

Easy Using A Layer Cake Or 10 Inch Squares

The Sunshine and Shadows quilt pattern is a log cabin classic with plays of values in lights and darks, traditionally a suggestion of the ups and downs of life. This design was patterned to celebrate the March total solar eclipse visible since 1979.

 

This log cabin quilt is made up of 10″ squares for easy piecing and fast completion. If you have 10” squares in your stash, not strips, here’s the solution. There is almost no fabric left over cutting the strips for these Sunshine and Shadows blocks. You will be able to cut all of the pieces you need from one layer cake or 10″ squares!

 

80 blocks (8″ finished) and makes a fun design for a beginning quilter to tackle without hesitation. Although it looks intricate, the careful directions include using sticky dots, making placement and construction super easy.

To make the feature quilt you’ll be needing 40 x 10″ squares assorted light prints, and 40 x 10″ squares assorted dark prints plus a little yardage. The quilt measures a generous 64″ x 80″, to drape over a bed, or make an impressive wall hanging. Finished Size: 64″ ×80″, finished blocks: 80 by 8″blocks.
