Three Charm Packs Plentiful For This Baby Quilt.
Get as much as you can out of your charm packs. After making this adorable baby quilt, use the left over triangles to make the matching pillow!
All you need is for the 40″ baby quilt is:
2 Charm Packs – Print
1 Charm Pack – Solid
1 1/4 Yards for Backing
1/2 Yard for Binding
And for the matching 16″ pillow:
2 Yards of Trim
1 Fat Quarter – fabric match or co-ordinate to the charm packs
18″ Zipper
Pillow Form
Cut
64 Prints for Quilt Blocks
17 Prints for Quilt Borders
32 Solid Charms
Choose 4 different charms:
Take 2 of those charms and pair with a solid, right sides facing. Stitch along your mark and sew another line 1/2″ over. Cut between those lines. Set the smaller half aside.
For the quilt make 16 small blocks.Take four of the blocks and form a large block.
Then sew them together to make four large blocks. Finally sew the four large blocks together to make the quilt top.
For the border use the remaining charms:
Cut 1 Charm into quarters (4) 2.5″ squares
Cut 16 Charms in half (32) 2.5″ x 5″ rectangles.
Sew eight rectangles together to create a border. Make 4 borders. Then sew a square on to the end of two of the borders. Use the border strips with the square ends at the top and bottom of the quilt. Use the borders without square ends on either side of the quilt.
Quilt top complete. Sandwich and bind.
For the 16″ pillow.
Using 25 of the left over triangles, trim to to 3.75″ squares. Please be sure to use the squared end of the ruler and one side isn’t an extra 1/2″ wide.
Press open. You should have a 3.75″ square. Repeat for all squares. Stitch squares five across and five down. Quilt. Trim to 16.75″ square. Sew on the decorative trim.
Sew the zipper in. Cut a 16.75″ square from your fat quarter. Attach the other side of the zipper to the fat quarter fabric. Open zipper half way and stitch pillow cover with fabric right sides together. Zig zag edges to prevent fabric fray. Done!
